Mississippi. An anthropocene River. Field station 4: Confluence Ecologies

Camera, Edit

Confluence Ecologies: An Anthropocene River gathers the voices of a group of artists, activists and scholars during the Southern Illinois chapter of the Anthropocene River Journey, a collective effort of multidisciplinary activities around the Mississippi, investigating its role as a particularly heterogeneous space with a unique intersection of historical, natural and cultural traces through both real and mythic America.

DEEP TIME CHICAGO is an art/research/activism initiative formed in the wake of the Anthropocene Curriculum program at HKW in Berlin, Germany. The initiative’s goal is to explore one core idea: humanity as a geological agency, capable of disrupting the earth system and inscribing present modes of existence into deep time.

Hispanic / Latinx Heritage Month 2020 Kickoff: Be proud of your past, embrace your future

The Hispanic/Latinx Resource Center at SIUC

The Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month at SIUC has a vibrant history of unique events (which include guest speakers, piñatas, cooking demonstrations, dancing and more), aimed to celebrate hispanic/latinx community throughout SIU and Southern Illinois.

This year’s kickoff also represents an opportunity to use the celebration as a platform to reflect on the relevance of gathering the entire SIU system for the first time to address Hispanic / latinx communities as a subject within the ongoing national conversations on diversity, inclusion, bias prevention, social justice, and equity.

DIALOGUES IN THE HEART OF APPALACHIA

The Fulbright Program and Amizade

In the last four years, the U.S. Department of State sponsored a group of Fulbright Students to participate in a week-long service-learning program led by Amizade in Williamson, West Virginia. The 2019 edition saw a group of 12 international students joining Amizade in a unique service-learning immersion into the Appalachian culture while serving and learning with the Williamson Health and Wellness Center. Both scholars and community ambassadors shared moments of reflection about common concerns, as well as mutual particularities found throughout their staying in Williamson.

The Heart of Appalachia is a storytelling project by Amizade, in partnership with the Williamson Health and Wellness Center, with voices from participants from The Fulbright Program.
